Why Toe By Toe?
Many people ask about the name "Toe By Toe" The answer is a very simple but instructive.
Keda Cowling, the author who created the system, chose the name Toe By Toe as a result of a comment from a parent. A grateful mother had told Keda that now she could see how it worked:
“Progress by tiny steps – almost one toe at a time…” The mother was absolutely correct, of course. Students with reading difficulties tend to make progress by the tiniest of steps. Not 'stride-by-stride' or even 'step-by-step', but rather - one toe at a time.
Thus the name, Toe By Toe
However, even though the steps taken are small, students and their tutors can clearly measure progress right from the first page. Not only are reading skills and comprehension greatly improved, but confidence and self-esteem grow in equal measure.
