Toe By Toe UK – July 2018 Newsletter
Last month’s June 2018 newsletter shared with you the first leg of Toe By Toe’s Workshop Tour of Australia when we visited Western Australia.
This month, we want to share with you the next part of our tour to South Australia and Victoria.
Toe by Toe Tour to Australia March 2018 (Part Two)
Arriving in the beautiful city of Adelaide in South Australia late on Sunday evening, we spent the following day with Paul and Angela Slater and their family who emigrated to Australia from Scotland a few years ago.
Before emigrating, Paul and Angela had been leading lights at Dyslexia Ayrshire in Scotland where Paul’s IT skills had been invaluable. They very kindly took us on a tour of the local wineries – a great way to appreciate the beauty of the Adelaide suburbs.
The following morning we presented a 2-hour workshop at SPELD SA in Kensington and discussed a role for Toe By Toe helping struggling readers throughout the vast, remote hinterland of South Australia. On that score, watch out for a future newsletter describing ‘Toe By Toe By Telephone’ in New Zealand.
From South Australia we moved on to Melbourne in Victoria.
Toe By Toe is very widely used throughout the state of Victoria and in the city of Melbourne in particular. On 14 March, a well-received workshop was presented in downtown Melbourne at the office of Pearson Clinical (an international psychology consultancy). The event was co-hosted by Pearson and SPELD Victoria. The Australian Dyslexia Association also organised a training session held at Bentley West Primary School in the Melbourne suburbs which was very well attended.
Karoo Primary School
The highlight of the Melbourne leg of the trip was our visit to Karoo Primary School where Toe by Toe Co-ordinator, Sue Austin, has organised an incredibly successful reading programme. Sue is busy gathering impressive statistics with regard to reading age improvement and, as you can see, the children love their Toe by Toe.
We would welcome the thoughts and shared experiences of anyone who we met with, or who participated in any of our workshops whilst in Oz.
Look out for next month’s newsletter, with details of the Toe By Toe ‘Down-Under’ tour in the states of Queensland and New South Wales.
Best wishes from all at Toe By Toe
